Together Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for long-term couples who are fans of scary movies: Settle in with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. On the surface, it could look like standard biological terror, but beneath Together resides a deep examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It stars actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a special spark to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative starts when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar story element, sure, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the pair. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building of scares, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and delivers them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He fears the concept of completely losing his individual identity in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that come with long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have seen the movie as a powerful case for staying single. Conversely, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film actually helped them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you see yourself in one of the characters and feel frustration, or simply turn to your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
