Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
